Through the generous loan of a unique array of objects from Jay ('77) and Eileen ('76, '78) Walker’s Library of the History of Human Imagination, Cornell Library’s exhibition “Collecting Imagination” showcases imagination as a driving force through history and celebrates the adventure of discovery, learning, and creativity.

The private Walker Library in Ridgefield, Connecticut, was founded as a site of imagination through serendipitous immersion in its widely varied materials, rather than an encyclopedic research space ruled by a the Dewey Decimal System.  “Collecting Imagination” follows this same principle.  The diverse exhibited materials have an innovative flow that relies on viewers’ own interpretation.

Through this app, visitors can submit the connections they see between the objects in each exhibit case, as well as discover the connections curator Jay Walker has drawn between these artifacts of the history of human imagination.
